Job summary

Suncorp New Zealand is seeking a commercially minded Portfolio Specialist to support SME & Rural strategy and decision making. You will drive improvements, translate data into insights, and collaborate across teams to deliver value for customers and the business.

The role emphasizes data-driven decision making, risk management, and ongoing capability uplift across the portfolio, with exposure to senior stakeholders and strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

• Experience in portfolio management, business analysis, project delivery, analytics, insurance, or a similar role.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to convert data into meaningful business insights.
• Proven experience managing projects and driving initiatives from planning through to implementation.

Responsibilities

• Partner with stakeholders to identify business challenges and develop commercially sound solutions.
• Provide data-driven insights, recommendations, and performance analysis to support strategic decision-making.
• Translate complex information into clear, actionable insights for a wide range of audiences.
• Lead and support initiatives focused on simplification, continuous improvement, and risk management.
• Act as a key contact for Business and Rural portfolios, ensuring appropriate involvement in change initiatives and projects.
• Collaborate across teams to coordinate priorities, drive outcomes, and maintain momentum on strategic work.
• Conduct research and identify opportunities that improve customer outcomes and business performance.
• Contribute to uplifting data maturity and analytical capability across the organisation.
• Support the delivery of strategic business plans and portfolio objectives.

We're looking for a commercially minded and analytical Portfolio Specialist to join our SME & Rural team. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of the business, supporting strategic decision-making, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and delivering solutions that create value for both our customers and our business.

As a trusted partner to leaders and stakeholders, you'll identify opportunities, solve complex business challenges, and help shape the future direction of our portfolio. You'll collaborate across multiple teams to drive key initiatives from concept through to delivery, while building strong relationships and influencing positive outcomes.

What You'll Be Doing

What You'll Bring

• Experience in portfolio management, business analysis, project delivery, analytics, insurance, or a similar role.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to convert data into meaningful business insights.
• Proven experience managing projects and driving initiatives from planning through to implementation.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and influence outcomes.
• Confidence working across multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex information and engage diverse audiences.
• A proactive and self-motivated approach with a focus on achieving results.

Ideally you'll have

• A tertiary qualification in Mathematics, Science, Commerce, Technology, or a related discipline.

OR

• 3-5+ years' experience in insurance, analytics, project delivery, business improvement, consulting, or a related field.

Experience within the General Insurance industry will be highly regarded.
