Job summary

Ministry of Health in Wellington is seeking a Policy Analyst to contribute to workforce policy work supporting decisions across the health system and government. You’ll develop evidence-informed advice within a cross-agency, purpose-driven environment, collaborating with health experts and stakeholders.

The role focuses on high-quality policy development, equity considerations, and timely advice aligned with the Royal Commission response.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in health or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience developing policy advice or strong understanding of social policy issues and the wider policy environment.
• Strong organisational skills with ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• Sound critical thinking and judgement with ability to analyse issues and develop practical options.
• Excellent communication and relationship management skills with ability to build stakeholder partnerships.

Responsibilities

Ko tōu ake mahi - What you’ll do

As a Policy Analyst in Strategy and Policy | Te Pou Rautaki, you'll contribute to meaningful policy work that supports decisions across the health system and government to progress the Ministry’s work implementing the Government’s Response to the Royal Commission’s Report into Historical Abuse in State Care and in the Care of Faith-based Institutions, focusing on workforce issues. Working alongside experienced policy professionals, health experts and key stakeholders, you'll help develop evidence-informed advice that influences outcomes for communities across Aotearoa while building your policy expertise in a collaborative, cross-agency and purpose-driven environment.

What You'll Do

• Contribute to the development of high-quality policy and regulatory advice on the Ministry’s workforce work improvements for its response to the Royal Commission’s Report into Historical Abuse.
• Support policy projects through analysis, planning, coordination, monitoring and evaluation activities that progress the Ministry’s workforce work in response to the Royal Commission’s Report into Historical Abuse.
• Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across the Ministry and health sector to deliver impactful policy initiatives.
• Provide practical policy advice and identify opportunities to improve processes, tools and ways of working.
• Build effective working relationships while ensuring all work reflects equity priorities and Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations.
• A tertiary qualification in health or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience developing policy advice or a strong understanding of social policy issues and the wider policy environment.
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work to deadlines.
• Sound critical thinking and judgement, with the ability to analyse issues and develop practical advice and options.
