Job summary

Mercury NZ in Hamilton is seeking a Platform Specialist to keep our critical Generation and Trading systems running smoothly, 24/7. You will focus on technical excellence, reliability, and learning the business domain within a collaborative environment where observability matters.

You'll work with OpenTelemetry, Grafana, and Splunk, build on AWS and Windows platforms, and contribute to automation, incident response, and disaster recovery while collaborating with engineering teams across the

Qualifications

• Strong experience supporting enterprise systems—SRE or similar.
• Incident management and troubleshooting— diagnose complex production issues and perform post-incident reviews.
• Experience with agile software development teams.
• Observability and monitoring tools experience (OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Splunk).
• Cloud and platform experience (Windows and AWS; Linux is a plus).
• SQL/relational databases experience (SQLServer, PostgreSQL).
• Ability to write and maintain scripts (PowerShell, Python).
• Security and operational resilience—DR, backups, failover, and business continuity.

Responsibilities

• Support and maintain platforms underpinning generation and wholesale operations.
• Establish and monitor service health through metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting.
• Assist incident response, troubleshooting, recovery, and post-incident reviews.
• Contribute to capacity planning, performance optimisation, and disaster recovery.
• Collaborate with engineering to build reliability into solutions from the outset.
• Promote a keep-it-simple mindset and automate repetitive tasks to reduce errors.
• Participate in on-call or operational support for critical services.
