Job summary

Altus NZ in Auckland's Highbrook site is seeking a practical, hands-on operator to safely run the aluminium plate saw and related cutting equipment. You will deliver accurate customer orders meeting specs and contribute to quality and safety.

Ideal candidates have prior machinery experience, a forklift licence (preferred), good attention to detail, and enjoy learning new skills in a busy manufacturing environment. On-site role with training and safety focus.

Responsibilities

About the Role

We're looking for a practical, hands‑on person to join our Industrial team located in Highbrook, East Tamaki. If you are a skilled machinery operator, enjoy the challenge of precision work and problem solving and learning new skills, this could be the role for you.

The primary purpose of this position is to safely operate our aluminium plate saw and associated cutting equipment, delivering accurate, high‑quality customer orders that meet specification and are completed right first time.

Key responsibilities include:

• Complete pre-start inspections, machine safety checks, and report any hazards, faults, incidents, or near misses according to Altus safety procedures.
• Safe operation of plate saws and other aluminium cutting equipment.
• Picking, cutting and preparing materials to specification.
• Operating forklifts (training provided).
• Completing basic machine maintenance and daily checks.
• Assisting with production planning and workflow scheduling.
• Monitoring stock levels and completing cycle counts.
• Moving and updating inventory within SAP.
• Supporting the Warehouse Manager and wider team.

About You

You’re a hands‑on, reliable team player who takes pride in producing quality work and getting the job done right the first time. Safety is a core part of how you work, and you actively follow safe work practices, complete pre-start checks, identify hazards, and look out for the wellbeing of those around you.

You have strong attention to detail, communicate effectively, and can manage your time in a busy production environment. This role involves regular manual handling, so you’ll be physically fit and comfortable working on your feet.

You’ll enjoy problem‑solving, working with measurements and numbers, and have an interest in machinery, manufacturing, engineering, or mechanical processes. Previous experience operating machinery, forklifts, or working in a warehouse or manufacturing environment is advantageous but not essential.

Most importantly, you’ll bring a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a genuine commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

• Experienced machinery, manufacturing equipment operator.
• Forklift operating experience and a current licence are preferred, but not essential.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work confidently and accurately with measurements and numerical information.
• A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
• Good communication and time management skills.
• A reasonable level of physical fitness.
