Job summary

The University of Auckland seeks a hands-on Teaching Technician to support safe and effective delivery of practical physiology teaching within our FMHS Multi-Disciplinary Laboratories. You will prepare sessions, maintain equipment, handle biological materials and assist students and staff in a dynamic teaching environment.

Key responsibilities include dissections, tissue handling, equipment maintenance, and developing setup notes and safety records.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science or equivalent required.
• 3–5 years of relevant laboratory experience.
• Knowledge of physiological processes and lab procedures.
• Practical knowledge of lab techniques and equipment troubleshooting.
• Strong communication, time management and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, set up, support and pack down practical physiology teaching sessions.
• Undertake dissections, tissue collection and drug administration per protocols and safety rules.
• Maintain and troubleshoot scientific equipment; arrange servicing or calibration.
• Demonstrate lab equipment and assist staff, tutors and students during teaching.
• Prepare and update setup notes, risk assessments and lab records; manage safe handling and disposal of materials.
• Maintain teaching spaces and manage equipment and consumable stocks.
