Job summary

Quantifi Photonics, part of Teradyne, Auckland, is seeking a Hardware Engineer to design, develop, integrate, and validate electronic hardware for advanced photonics test systems. You will apply analogue, digital, mixed-signal, and embedded design principles across full lifecycle from requirements through production release.

We expect a Bachelor’s in Electrical/Computer Engineering with 3+ years of hardware experience, hands-on lab skills, Altium Designer proficiency, and strong Python/MATLAB

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with analogue, digital, mixed-signal, and/or power electronic circuit design and verification.
  • Hands-on with electronic lab equipment and hardware bring-up.
  • Proficiency in e-CAD tools (Altium Designer) including schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Experience developing test scripts in Python or MATLAB for automation/analysis.
  • Embedded systems knowledge with C/C++ programming.
  • Version control experience (Git/SVN).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own design and development of electronic circuits, PCBs, and hardware modules for photonics test systems.
  • Translate requirements into hardware specifications, design decisions, and verification evidence.
  • Perform schematic capture, component selection, and PCB layout using established processes.
  • Plan and execute laboratory testing with oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal generators, and loads.
  • Debug hardware and system issues using root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop automated test and data-analysis scripts to improve efficiency and traceability.
  • Create and maintain design docs, verification records, BOMs, and release data in PLM systems.
  • Collaborate with Systems, Firmware, Software, Mechanical, NPI, Test Systems, Production, and Supply Chain teams.
  • Work with Production/NPI to establish manufacturing tests and acceptance criteria for PCBAs.
  • Participate in technical reviews and mentor junior engineers.
