Our Purpose

TERADYNE, where experience meets innovation and driving excellence in every connection. We are fueled by creativity and diversity of thought in our workforce. Our employees are supported to innovate and learn something new every day.

Based in Auckland, Quantifi Photonics is proud to be part of the Teradyne family, combining New Zealand's innovative spirit with the resources of a global leader in test, automation, and robotics. We’re growing fast, tackling increasingly complex challenges, and are looking for passionate, talented people to help take Quantifi Photonics to the next level.

Quantifi Photonics designs and manufactures advanced optical and electronic test instruments that enable engineers to develop and scale up next-generation photonics technologies. Our customers include global tech companies, leading universities, and world-class research institutions in over 25 countries; working across R&D, high-volume manufacturing, defence, aerospace, and academia.

We cultivate a culture of inclusion for all employees that respects their individual strengths, views, and experiences. We believe that our differences enable us to be a better team, one that makes better decisions, drives innovation, and delivers better business results.

Opportunity Overview

As a Hardware Engineer, you will independently design, develop, integrate, and validate electronic hardware for advanced photonics test and measurement systems. You will apply sound engineering judgment across analogue, digital, mixed-signal, and embedded designs, taking defined hardware modules from requirements through schematic capture, prototype bring-up, verification, and release to production.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to resolve complex technical issues, improve product reliability and manufacturability, and deliver robust solutions that meet performance, quality, cost, and schedule objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the design and development of assigned electronic circuits, PCBAs, and hardware modules for photonics test systems.
  • Translate product and system requirements into hardware specifications, design decisions, test plans, and objective verification evidence.
  • Perform schematic capture, component selection, design analysis, design reviews, PCB layout, and prototype bring-up using established processes.
  • Plan and execute laboratory testing using oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal generators, electronic loads, and other relevant instrumentation.
  • Debug hardware and system-level issues using structured root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions and continuous improvements.
  • Develop automated test and data-analysis scripts to improve engineering efficiency, repeatability, and traceability.
  • Create and maintain design documentation, verification records, component libraries, bills of materials, and release data in internal documentation and PLM systems.
  • Collaborate with Systems, Firmware, Software, Mechanical, NPI, Test Systems, Production, and Supply Chain teams to ensure designs meet functional and production requirements.
  • Work with Production and NPI to establish manufacturing tests, incoming quality control protocols, and acceptance criteria for newly released PCBAs.
  • Contribute to technical reviews and provide practical guidance to less-experienced engineers and technicians within the scope of assigned work.
All About You

We seek engineers who combine strong technical fundamentals with ownership, curiosity, and a commitment to customer success. The successful candidate will be able to progress defined engineering work with moderate autonomy, communicate risks early, and collaborate effectively across disciplines.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience designing, developing, testing, or supporting electronic hardware products.
  • Practical experience with analogue, digital, mixed-signal, and/or power electronic circuit design and verification.
  • Experience with e-CAD tools such as Altium Designer, including schematic capture and working knowledge of PCB layout and design-for-manufacture principles.
  • Hands-on proficiency with electronic laboratory equipment and structured hardware bring-up, debugging, and fault isolation.
  • Experience developing engineering test scripts in Python or MATLAB for test automation, data acquisition, or analysis.
  • Working knowledge of embedded systems, microcontrollers, and programming in C or C++.
  • Experience using version-control tools such as Git or SVN.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Ability to manage assigned priorities, make evidence-based engineering decisions, and deliver work with moderate supervision.
Benefits
  • Health insurance
  • Paid birthday leave
  • Employee assistance programme
  • Great staff facilities
  • Walking distance from Constellation Bus Station
  • Flexible and supportive work environment
