Job summary

Health New Zealand |Te Whatu Ora Lakes in Taupo Hospital is seeking a Pharmacy Technician on a fixed-term basis (parental leave). Working Monday to Friday, 0.8 FTE, you will support the pharmacy team to ensure safe, accurate dispensing and timely medication supply.

You’ll collaborate with pharmacists, clinicians and nurses, handle non-sterile compounding, stock control, and participate in ongoing projects like Pyxis automation, contributing to patient safety and excellent care.

Qualifications

• NZ Certified Pharmacy Technician Level 4/5/6 with or without a PACT qualification.
• Flexible team player with a diligent approach to work.
• Problem solver with a positive can-do attitude.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, time management, reliable and accurate.

Responsibilities

• Dispense a wide range of pharmaceuticals and prepare non-sterile compounded products.

About the Role

We have a vacancy for a highly motivated individual wishing to join our pharmacy team to support our pharmacy services.

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in our department by ensuring the safe, accurate, and timely supply of medications to patients across Taupo Hospital.

You will be a key point of contact for nurses and other healthcare professionals, providing essential support and information.

Your daily tasks will be varied, including dispensing a wide range of pharmaceuticals, preparing non-sterile compounded products, and assisting with stock management to maintain optimal inventory levels.

This is a role where your attention to detail and commitment to patient safety will directly contribute to excellent patient care.

You’ll work collaboratively with pharmacists and other technicians in a fast-paced and rewarding environment.

You will be exposed to automated dispensing units (Pyxis) - this is an ongoing project rolling across 2026-2027.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a patient focused, multidisciplinary team and experience hospital pharmacy.

About the Team/Service/Location

Our team is split across two sites (Rotorua and Taupo) and consists of 21 staff members: 13x pharmacists, 1x pharmacy intern and 7x technicians.
