Job summary

Waikato Hospital in Hamilton is seeking a hospital pharmacist to join the dispensary and procurement team. You will contribute to medication safety, support community pharmacy, and mentor technicians while expanding clinical checking and supply processes.

This full-time permanent role includes a 40-hour week with shifts Monday to Saturday (07:30–17:30), with flexibility and opportunities for clinical trials and ongoing learning within Health New Zealand.

Qualifications

• Full registration with Pharmacy Council of NZ, with a current Pharmacist Annual Practising Certificate.
• Ideally 1+ years experience as a pharmacist in a hospital or community setting.
• Strong communication and teaching abilities.
• Willingness to mentor technicians and assistants.

About the Role

Need an opportunity to advance your clinical skills and enter the world of hospital pharmacy or just tired of the same-old, same-old and want to do something different? Join our dispensary procurement supply team and undertake not only a key role in our base dispensary and supply service but help support our community pharmacy and medication safety services also. Heaps of variety, fun and on-going learning, in fact never a dull or boring moment!

Day to day you will be working within our main hospital pharmacy dispensary and will also spend time in the procurement area, learning procurement and supply chain process. You will have input into organisational medication safety by assisting with medication change advice. Advance your clinical knowledge by undertaking clinical checking of medication charts from all over the hospital service, alongside an experienced pharmacist.

Mentoring, coaching and supervision of technician and assistant positions will also be a key part of the role. You will also provide back up to our on-site community pharmacy and have possible involvement in our clinical trial service.

This is a full-time permanent position where you will work and 40 hour shift between Monday - Saturday, with some flexibility of shifts between 0730 1730, with a shorter day if preferred on Saturday.

About you

Skills and experience youll need to be considered for the role:

• Full registration with Pharmacy Council of NZ, with a current Pharmacist Annual Practising Certificate (or to be gained within 3 months of supervised practice).
• Ideally 1+ years experience as a pharmacist, working as a pharmacist in a community or hospital pharmacy setting.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to teach, mentor and supervise others.
