Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora in Hawke's Bay is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to join our hospital pharmacy team. You will prepare, label, and dispense medications for inpatients and outpatients, manage repacks and imprest stock, and support prescription processing with accuracy.

You'll work closely with pharmacists and clinical staff to ensure timely medication supply and safe, high‑quality patient care.

Qualifications

  • Pharmacy Technician qualification recognised by the Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand
  • Knowledge of NZ pharmacy sector, PHARMAC/HML processes
  • Strong knowledge of medicines, formulations and their uses
  • Effective communication and problem-solving
  • Ability to work independently with attention to detail
  • Competence with Microsoft Office applications
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equitable outcomes
  • PACT certification
  • Previous hospital pharmacy experience
  • Familiarity with ePharmacy (DXC)
  • Advanced IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, distribute and manage medications for inpatients, outpatients and ward imprest systems
  • Accurately pick and label medications and assist with repacks
  • Assist with prescription processing and stock management
  • Support drug imprest services and communicate supply issues to wards
  • Perform final checks on dispensed items if PACT certified

About the Role

As a Pharmacy Technician, youll be responsible for preparing, distributing and managing medications for inpatients, outpatients and ward imprest systems across Hawkes Bay Hospital. Youll work closely with pharmacists, technicians and the wider clinical team to ensure timely, accurate medication supply and excellent service delivery.

Your work will include accurately picking and labelling medications, managing repacks, assisting with prescription processing, maintaining stock levels, supporting drug imprest services and communicating with wards regarding supply issues. If PACTcertified, you may also perform final accuracy checks on dispensed items.

About the Team/Service/Location

Based at Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldier Memorial Hospital, our Hospital Pharmacy team is supportive, skilled and committed to patientcentred care. Youll work alongside pharmacists, technicians, assistants and clinical teams across the hospital, helping maintain safe medication systems and high service standards.

About you

You are a reliable and skilled Pharmacy Technician who is committed to accuracy, teamwork and patient safety. You will have:

  • A Pharmacy Technician qualification recognised by the Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand.
  • Knowledge of the NZ pharmacy sector, relevant legislation and PHARMAC/HML processes.
  • Strong knowledge of commonly used medicines, formulations and uses.
  • Effective communication skills and a positive, problemsolving attitude.
  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equitable outcomes for Māori and Pasifika.
  • National Certificate in Pharmacy (Technician) Level 5 or above.
  • PACT certification.
  • Previous hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Familiarity with ePharmacy (DXC).
  • Advanced IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
