Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Pharmaceutical Research Scientist to join our client’s R&D team in Welkom, Free State. The role focuses on early-stage drug discovery and pre-clinical research, designing and executing experiments and interpreting results to advance the pipeline.

You'll collaborate with chemists, biologists, and pharmacologists, contribute to IP, stay current with literature, and help develop strategies for novel therapeutic agents.

Qualifications

• PhD in Pharmacology, Medicinal Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related life science discipline.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of post-doctoral or industry research experience in drug discovery.
• Demonstrated expertise in experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation within the pharmaceutical research domain.
• Proficiency with common laboratory techniques, instrumentation, and relevant software (LIMS, ELN, GraphPad Prism).
• Strong understanding of disease pathways and therapeutic targets relevant to our focus areas.
• Excellent scientific communication skills, both written and verbal, with a publication record being an asset.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute in vitro and in vivo experiments to identify and characterize potential drug candidates.
• Perform compound screening, target validation, and mechanistic studies to assess efficacy and safety profiles.
• Analyze experimental data using statistical software and present findings clearly to the research team and management.
• Contribute to the development of intellectual property by documenting experimental procedures and results thoroughly.
• Stay abreast of the latest scientific literature and technological advancements in drug discovery and relevant therapeutic areas.
• Collaborate effectively with other scientists, chemists, biologists, and pharmacologists to advance research projects from concept to pre-clinical development.
