Job summary

Craigmore Horticulture is seeking a Leading Hand for our Gisborne Apples team. You will oversee in-field operations, manage staff, and assist with record keeping and machinery tasks while training seasonal crews.

Qualifications

• Must-have National Certificate in Horticulture Level 4 or equivalent experience.
• Strong leadership and ability to motivate a team.
• Ability to implement and communicate job sheets and daily priorities.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
• Good time management and ability to meet daily deadlines.
• Safety comes first; identify hazards and manage field risks.

• Supervise staff, training, onboarding and scheduling.
• Maintain records and support machinery tasks as required.
• Assist orchard management with running teams and daily tasks.

Job description

We're looking for a driven and dependable Leading Hand to join our Gisborne Apples team. As a Leading Hand, you'll be responsible for all aspects of in-field operations, including pest and disease, staff supervision, record keeping, and machinery tasks. You will have the opportunity to train staff on seasonal tasks, onboard new teams and assist with the general running of teams as guided by orchard management.

Live outside Gisborne? Relocation assistance + a signing bonus is on the table for the right candidate.

We're looking for someone with:

• Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate a team
• Ability to implement and communicate job sheets
• National Certificate in Horticulture Level 4 or equivalent experience
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment
• Good time management, and ability to meet daily deadlines
• A safety comes first attitude and ability to identify hazards and risks in the field
• To be familiar with pip fruit pest and disease best practices including identification and control methods
