Job summary

Ka Puta Ka Ora Emerge Aotearoa is seeking a Peer Support Worker in Hamilton. You will use your lived experience to support people on their wellbeing and recovery journey, building trusting relationships with clients and whānau.

You will work with a supportive team, encouraging independence, community participation, and engagement with formal and informal support networks. First Aid/CPR certification is required, and a Level 4+ qualification in Mental Health and Addiction is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Lived experience of mental distress and recovery used to support others.
  • First Aid with CPR certification required.
  • Must hold a full NZ driver’s licence.
  • Be confident working autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with recording information in databases.

  • Hourly rate: $25.67 - $30.52 (placement will depend on the level of qualification)

As aPeer Support Worker, you will use your lived experience to support people on their wellbeing and recovery journey. Working alongside a supportive team, you will:

  • Build authentic and trusting relationships with the people you support and their whānau
  • Use your lived experience to inspire hope, resilience, and positive change
  • Support individuals to achieve their goals, build confidence, and develop independence
  • Encourage community participation and connection with natural and formal support networks
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and health professionals to achieve positive outcomes

You will bring:

  • A Level 4 (or higher) qualification in Mental Health and Addiction or be working towards one.

Personal lived experience of mental distress and recovery, and the ability to use this experience purposefully to support others

  • A genuine commitment to recovery-focused and strengths-based practice
  • Must hold and maintain First Aid certification including CPR (or be willing and able to complete this).
  • Commitment to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitanga and working as tangata tiriti.
  • A full New Zealand Drivers licence.
  • Will be confident working autonomously.
  • Be familiar with using databases and recording information.
