Job summary

Downer’s Surfacing Division is seeking an experienced Supervisor to lead the Gisborne-based paving crew in reconstruction and resurfacing works across the Canterbury Region. The role involves directing crews and subcontractors, maintaining productive stakeholder relationships, and ensuring efficient resource use on site.

You will be hands-on, providing training and development to crews, with a proven track record in leadership and a strong knowledge of bituminous materials and paving plant

Qualifications

• Proven leadership experience leading paving crews or field teams.
• Strong planning and organisational skills for job site execution.
• Ability to direct crews and subcontractors to meet project objectives.

Our Asphalt Paving team is no exception. We proudly support our customers by delivering high standards of work all whilst offering our people opportunities for growth.

Our Surfacing Division covers maintenance of New Zealand roads and is looking for an experienced Supervisor to lead our Gisborne based Paving crew in reconstruction and resurfacing works/asphalt paving activities across the Canterbury Region.

Other responsibilities include:

Arrange, direct and monitor activities of crews and subcontractors to ensure that their work meets project objectives and requirements.

Maintain strong and positive relationships with key stakeholders

Ensure efficient use of resource

Assist in the selection, coaching and development of staff

This role will be ‘hands on’ where you will be providing training and development to the crews under your supervision, so you’ll need to have a proven track record of leadership. You’ll also have:

• Strong planning and organisational skills
• Ability to deal with unexpected events and provide direction
• A Class 2 drivers licence with a WTR endorsement
• Knowledge of the laying and compaction of bituminous materials
• Knowledge of paving plant operation
• Knowledge of asphalt mix designs
• Able to undertake site measurement and accurately order materials with minimal wastage
