Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora in Hawke’s Bay is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to join the Nutrition & Food Service team. You will assist in preparing and serving patient meals, ensuring portions meet dietary needs and are delivered promptly in a fast-paced environment.

The role focuses on hygiene, teamwork, and adherence to food safety protocols, supporting patient wellbeing and recovery within a collaborative clinical service.

Qualifications

• Desirable food service experience.
• Desirable food hygiene certificate.
• Effective communicator with a positive, problem-solving attitude.
• Physically fit: able to lift 10kg, stand/walk for shifts, squat/kneel.
• Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and ability to engage with Māori.

Responsibilities

• Serve nutritious, well-portioned dinner meals meeting patient dietary needs.
• Work with cooks and kitchen staff to deliver meals accurately and on time.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness: wash dishes, sanitise equipment, follow food safety protocols.
• Contribute to a safe, welcoming kitchen environment supporting patient wellbeing.
