Christchurch City Council is seeking Parking Compliance Officers to help keep streets safe and parking available. You’ll be out on foot and by motorcycle, assisting residents with driveways and guiding visitors with directions across busy summer periods.
The role requires a full NZ driver's licence for car and motorcycle, and the willingness to obtain a motorcycle licence if needed. You’ll join a proactive team focused on calm communication and strong customer service.
Our Parking Compliance Officers play an important role in helping Christchurch run smoothly, safely, and fairly.
As our city comes to life over summer with busy streets, community events, visitors, and people enjoying everything Christchurch has to offer, our team is out there every day helping keep traffic moving, parking available, and public spaces accessible for everyone.
From keeping tamariki safe outside schools to supporting access to popular events, parks, beaches, and local businesses, our officers help ensure residents and visitors can enjoy our beautiful city with confidence. We keep the wheels turning, reduce unnecessary congestion, and help make Christchurch a welcoming place for all.
Our Parking Compliance Officers enjoy a varied, active role out in the community. You won't just be issuing tickets on the streets; you'll be residents' saviours when there is a vehicle parked over their driveway and a friendly face for our community and visitors when they look to you for directions or assistance.
With summer approaching, this is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that helps manage increased activity across Christchurch's streets, neighbourhoods, recreational areas, and event spaces. No two days are the same, and you'll be at the heart of ensuring our city remains safe, accessible, and enjoyable during one of the busiest times of the year.
A key part of the role is being highly mobile. Officers patrol both on foot and by motorcycle, and willingness to ride a motorcycle is a mandatory requirement of the position. This enables you to cover larger areas efficiently and respond quickly where needed.
It's true that if you take on this role you may encounter some complex situations and people. That's where your well-honed life skills and calm demeanour come into play. You are someone who finds it easy to communicate and de-escalate a variety of situations when required, but you'll also have the ability and common sense to know when to walk away from a challenging situation.
While full support and training is provided, there are a few things that you'll need to be successful in this role:
If you enjoy being outdoors, staying active, and making a visible difference in your community, this could be the perfect role for you. There's no better time to experience Christchurch than during summer, when the city is buzzing with activity, events, and people making the most of our parks, beaches, and public spaces. As a Parking Compliance Officer, you'll be out and about helping keep the city running smoothly while enjoying a role that’s active, varied, and largely self-managed.
Ask our officers, they'll tell you that on a sunny day in Christchurch there is no better place to be soaking up the fresh air and clocking up your daily steps. Not only do you get to be part of a supportive team, but our officers also say they love the degree of freedom this role gives them as you are mostly self-managed and in control of how your day turns out.
