  • Make a visible difference in your community by helping prevent issues before they escalade
  • Work alongside businesses, residents, Police and community groups to support safer public spaces

Be out in the community, tackle real-world issues and help create safer public spaces across Auckland while building your compliance experience.

Auckland Council’s Licensing and Compliance department is looking for four Compliance Wardens to join our Community Safety team on a fixed-term basis.

If you enjoy being out and about, working with people and finding practical ways to resolve issues, this could be the opportunity for you.

As a Compliance Warden, you’ll play an important role in supporting public safety across Auckland. You’ll work directly with residents, businesses and community groups to understand concerns, provide advice and take action where needed. The focus is on early intervention and education, helping people understand their responsibilities and resolve issues before they become bigger problems.

You could expect to work on:

  • Monitoring community issues and identifying potential risks to public safety and wellbeing.
  • Visiting sites and engaging directly with residents, businesses and community groups.
  • Providing guidance on council requirements and supporting people to meet their obligations.
  • Assessing situations and taking appropriate action, including escalating matters where required.
  • Working with Police, business associations, community patrols and other agencies to address local concerns.

You’ll bring experience from a compliance, security, regulatory or similar environment and be comfortable working with people from different backgrounds and in a range of situations.

We will be looking for:

  • 1–2 years’ experience in compliance, security or a related role.
  • Experience working with legislation, policies, procedures or regulatory requirements.
  • Experience assessing situations, identifying risks and determining appropriate action.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • A current and relevant New Zealand driver licence.

You don’t need to know everything about local government compliance from day one. Training and support will be provided to help you build your knowledge of council legislation, bylaws and compliance processes.

We still encourage you to apply if you have some but not all these requirements.

Auckland Council is the largest local government council across Oceania, serving over 1.7 million people and contributing towards making Tāmaki Makaurau a world-class city.

Applications close: 11th October 2026

If you have any support or access requirements, please advise us when submitting your application so we can assist you.

This role has a remuneration range of $67,414 - $79,310 per annum plus shift and on-call allowances.
