Job summary

Access Specialties in Auckland is seeking a Paint Prepper / Workshop Assistant to prepare EWPs and other machinery for painting and refurbishment.

You will perform water blasting, degreasing, sanding and masking, ensuring surfaces are ready for a high-quality finish. The role is hands-on, fits a practical team player, and offers a stable, Kiwi-owned workplace with its own workshop. Hours are Mon-Fri 6:30am-4:00pm, 45 hours per week, with occasional Saturday work.

Qualifications

• Experience in paint preparation or related fields is advantageous.
• Confidence using sanders, grinders and other power tools.
• Good attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
• Practical, hands-on approach and ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Water blasting, washing and degreasing machinery.
• Remove dirt, grease, rust, loose paint and corrosion.
• Sand, grind and prepare metal surfaces for painting.
• Masking components and areas not being painted; prep for priming and painting.
• Assist with general machinery refurbishment and keep area clean and safe.

We work with a wide range of leading machinery brands and support customers throughout New Zealand. Due to continued growth, we are looking for a reliable and hardworking Paint Prepper / Workshop Assistant to join our Auckland team.

The Role

This is a hands-on workshop position preparing EWPs and other machinery for painting and refurbishment.

You will be responsible for ensuring machinery and components are thoroughly prepared so they are ready for a high-quality paint finish. The work is varied and includes everything from smaller components through to large access machines.

Key Responsibilities

• Water blasting, washing and degreasing machinery
• Removing dirt, grease, rust, loose paint and corrosion
• Sanding, grinding and preparing metal surfaces
• Applying fillers and completing minor surface repairsMasking components and areas not being painted
• Preparing machinery and parts for priming and painting
• Removing and replacing decals and minor components
• Assisting with general machinery refurbishment
• Keeping the work area, tools and equipment clean and organised
• Following all workplace health and safety requirements

What We're Looking For

• Previous paint preparation, automotive, panel shop, industrial painting or machinery experience would be an advantage
• Confidence using sanders, grinders and other power tools
• Good attention to detail and pride in your workmanship
• A practical, hands-on approach
• Reliable, punctual and able to work well as part of a team
• Physically fit and comfortable carrying out manual work
• Able to follow instructions and complete work efficiently
• A strong commitment to workplace health and safety

Experience with spray painting, abrasive blasting, panel preparation, rust treatment or machinery refurbishment would be beneficial but is not essential. Training can be provided for someone with the right attitude and practical ability.
