Job summary

Christchurch Methodist Mission is seeking an Overnight Coordinator for its Youth Hub Housing to ensure safety, support, and continuity of care for young people 16–24 during overnight hours in transitional housing.

The role emphasizes calm emergency response, collaboration with staff, and culturally respectful decision making, with a focus on youth wellbeing and safe, supportive environments.

Qualifications

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm in emergencies.
  • Experience working with young people or in a housing/support role.
  • Experience with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, especially Māori and Pacific Peoples, and facilitating culturally relevant decision making.
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its relevance to CMM services.
  • Administrative and computer skills including MS Word, Email, and Database applications.

Responsibilities

  • Help provide safety, support, and continuity of care for youth during overnight hours.
  • Ensure smooth operation of the service during overnight shifts.
  • Collaborate with housing staff to respond to emergencies and maintain safety protocols.

The Christchurch Methodist Mission (CMM) is a social service agency of Te Hāhi Weteriana o Aotearoa with responsibility for services throughout Te Patiki Whakatekateka o Waitaha (Canterbury), Te Tai Poutini (West Coast) and Te Tau Ihu (Marlborough Region).

Our kaupapa serves the youngest to oldest members of our community through early childhood education, social work and psychological support in schools and homes, financial mentoring, housing and homelessness services and WesleyCare our home for kaumātua. With over 300 kaimahi we have an amazing amount of skills to help strengthen our communities.

Youth Hub

Youth Hub Housing provides accommodation for young people aged 16 - 24 years who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness. Our role is to provide a safe, supportive environment where young people can develop the confidence and skills needed to move towards independent living. Our service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Te Tūnga | the role

As an Overnight Coordinator you will help provide safety, support, and continuity of care for our youth while ensuring smooth operation during overnight hours within the transitional housing.

Shift includes:

Successful applicants will have:
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm in emergencies.
  • Experience working with young people or in a housing/support role.
  • Experience in working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, in particular Māori and Pacific Peoples and in facilitating and negotiating culturally relevant decision making.
  • An understanding of the relevance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi to the services offered by CMM.
  • Sound administrative and computer skills (MS Word, Email, and Database applications)
