Job summary

• Lead daily waste processing, recovery, transport, and disposal operations.
• Ensure facilities, fleet, and equipment operate safely and efficiently.

• Lead and develop drivers, plant operators, and site teams.
• Build a strong health, safety, and environmental culture.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety, transport, and waste regulations.
• Manage consent conditions, reporting, and regulatory relationships.
• Maintain best-practice standards across operations.
• Oversee transport operations, including route optimisation, fleet use, and maintenance planning.
• Ensure efficient movement of materials across customers, facilities, and disposal sites.
• Manage budgets, cost control, and operational reporting.
• Identify efficiencies, growth opportunities, and support key customer relationships.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives across Auckland operations.

At Intergroup, we handle the collection, treatment and disposal of a wide range of hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams – from industrial liquids to construction by-products – supporting environmental protection and regulatory compliance across New Zealand.

We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Waste Technical Services Operations Manager to oversee and lead our integrated waste management and resource recovery operations across Auckland.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable management of our waste streams.

Reporting directly to senior management, you will be responsible for driving operational excellence, ensuring regulatory compliance, leading teams, and identifying opportunities for growth and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

• Lead daily waste processing, recovery, transport, and disposal operations.
• Ensure facilities, fleet, and equipment operate safely and efficiently.
• Drive operational strategy, performance, and continuous improvement.
• Lead and develop drivers, plant operators, and site teams.
• Build a strong health, safety, and environmental culture.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

• Proven leadership experience within waste management, resource recovery, recycling, logistics, heavy industry, quarrying, civil construction, or related sectors.
• Strong operational management experience overseeing multiple business functions.
• Sound understanding of waste processing, landfill operations, recycling, or resource recovery activities.
• Experience managing heavy plant, fleet, and transport operations.
• Strong knowledge of health, safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Excellent financial, planning, and analytical skills.
• Outstanding communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• A hands‑on leadership style with a focus on accountability and results.
