Job summary

New Zealand Customs Service is seeking a Training Advisor to design, deliver, and govern core operational training programmes at the Auckland Air Cargo Inspection Facility. You will support the full training lifecycle, coach frontline trainers, and contribute to learning systems development to strengthen operational capability.

Qualifications

• Pass a fitness test, drug test, and medical.
• Hold a full NZ driver's licence.
• Level 5 or higher qualification in Adult and Tertiary Teaching, Learning & Development, Education, or related field.
• Experience leading or delivering complex training programmes in operational, regulatory, or safety‑critical environments.
• Assessment and moderation experience applying standards, supporting moderation, and contributing to quality assurance.
• Working knowledge of training competency frameworks including assessment requirements and workplace training obligations.
• Be able to work 'unpredictable hours' and travel nationally.
• Obtain and maintain organisational security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to learning and development strategy and policy with a continuous improvement view.
• Develop learning needs analysis with stakeholders and innovative learning approaches.
• Plan and schedule learning events and deliver effective courses (face-to-face and virtual).
• Lead or independently manage key learning and development projects.
• Support national QA processes including assessment, moderation, and evaluation cycles.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts and course facilitators in design and development.
