Job summary

SPCA is seeking an Op Shop Assistant at Richmond, Nelson for casual, as-needed coverage to support leave and busy periods. You will help sort and price donated goods, keep the shop inviting, and assist customers while supporting volunteers. Training and a friendly team environment await you.

You will also handle sales transactions, end-of-day reconciliations, and ensure health and safety procedures are followed, contributing to SPCA's mission for animal welfare.

Qualifications

• Retail or customer service experience (charity retail a bonus).
• Able to work flexibly across the shop floor, till, and sorting area.
• Confident communicator who enjoys helping others.
• Reliable, organised, and proactive with good attention to detail.
• Comfortable working in a team and independently.
• Physically fit and able to lift/move stock as required.

Responsibilities

• Receive, sort, price, and merchandise donated goods in line with SPCA guidelines.
• Ensure the shop is clean, welcoming, and well-stocked throughout the day.
• Serve customers with warmth and professionalism, promoting positive donor and shopper experiences.
• Accurately process sales and cash handling, including end-of-day reconciliation.
• Provide cover and basic team supervision in the manager's absence.
• Help support and guide volunteers in their roles.
• Ensure health & safety and SPCA procedures are followed.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity at our RichmondSPCA Op Shop for a casual Op Shop Assistant to work as and when required to cover leave and busy periods.

Our Richmond Store is a vibrant part of the local community, with a dedicated team of volunteers and loyal customers who love finding second-hand treasures. This casual role is ideal for someone flexible, reliable, and ready to jump in and support the team when needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive, sort, price, and merchandise donated goods in line with SPCA guidelines.
