Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Workers, Avondale-based, is seeking an experienced Office and Payroll Administrator to join a small team. The role covers weekly payroll across three payrolls for about 100 employees, HR admin, timesheet verification, recruitment support, and general reporting.

We are a small family-owned business looking for an experienced Office and Payroll Administrator to join our Avondale-based team. The successful applicant will have good communication skills, a sense of humour, and be comfortable working in a small team.
Assist with processing the weekly payroll across the group — three separate payrolls in Crystal Payroll, covering approximately 100 waged and salaried employees
Ensure all payroll transactions comply with legislation and company policy, and maintain a thorough understanding of employment legislation, including the Holidays Act
HR administration — drafting letters of offer and contract variations, and maintaining HR documentation
Timesheet management — verifying timesheets and coordinating with department managers
Recruitment support — posting job ads, assisting with the recruitment process and managing onboarding for new starters
Provide back‑up across the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable ledgers
Assist with daily bank transactions and reconciliations
Assist with AEWV applications
Support the team with general administration and reporting for the group
Take on ad hoc projects and provide support as required
Proven experience in an HR administration or coordination role, ideally with a good understanding of employment legislation
A minimum of two years' end-to-end payroll experience, with a solid understanding of payroll legislation
Strong administrative skills and exceptional attention to detail
Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage workflow, set priorities and meet deadlines
Experience with accounting packages, and confidence with Excel and Word
An understanding of intercompany accounts and how they tie together in the general ledger, as there is more than one entity in the group
The ability to work unsupervised in a varied environment, with the initiative to take on whatever the role brings
A quick learner who is motivated and open to diverse backgrounds and experiences
Willing to travel to Clevedon one day a week, at least until you are familiar with the role
Experience with Crystal Payroll (or another cloud-based payroll system) and the MoneyWorks accounting system will be an advantage
Initially we see this role being 20 to 25 hours per week with the potential to grow into a full time role. We will be reasonably flexible for the right person, however we would need you here at least four days a week. Remuneration will be based on experience.
