Job description

Horowhenua District Council – Horowhenua District, North Island

This is a rewarding opportunity to join Horowhenua District Council's Community Infrastructure Group and play a vital role in keeping our community's essential services running smoothly. You will be responsible for the hands-on operation, maintenance, and fault investigation across our water, wastewater, and stormwater reticulation networks.

From proactive leak detection and hydrant compliance to emergency fault responses, your daily work will directly minimise water loss and safeguard environmental compliance. Working closely with the Network Supervisor, you will also participate in an after-hours on-call roster, ensuring our infrastructure remains resilient and our community stays informed and supported.

You enjoy the opportunity to work outdoors, are a tech-savvy team player who thrives in outdoor environments and takes pride in delivering exceptional customer service. Ideally, you hold an Infrastructure Works or Water Reticulation qualification, possess a minimum Class 1 driver's licence (Class 2 + RTW is a major plus), and have practical experience maintaining urban three waters networks.

You are comfortable using mobile devices for accurate data logging, communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders—including Iwi and local businesses and champion a strong health and safety culture. Current immunity to Hepatitis A, B, and Tetanus, or a willingness to prioritise these best practices, will set you up for success.

We offer a collaborative and supportive team environment where your safety, wellbeing, and professional development are genuinely prioritised. You will have access to continuous learning opportunities to expand your technical skills, including comprehensive training to confidently undertake your competency assessments for our scheduled on-call roster. By joining us, you will enjoy a varied, community-focused role within local government, where your hard work is backed by robust safety policies, quality protective equipment, and a shared commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture.

Applications close Wednesday, 22 July 2026, however, we will be reviewing at applications as they come in.

With many hands the threads which weave our neighbourhoods and communities together will be strengthened from the Tararua Ranges to the sea.
