We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations - from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.

Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.

About the Role

The Network Engineer plays a critical hands‑on role in delivering reliable, secure, and high‑performing network services, with responsibility for deploying, configuring, maintaining, and supporting day‑to‑day operations in line with agreed technical standards. Working closely with senior engineers, project teams, and vendors, the role focuses on troubleshooting issues, implementing solutions, and continuously improving service performance while ensuring availability, stability, security, and compliance.

The Network Engineer contributes to national, regional, and local ways of working, supports continuous improvement through simplification and transformation initiatives, and brings a collaborative, curious, and results‑focused approach to service delivery. The role is grounded in a strong commitment to equity, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, health and safety, and ethical practice, actively supporting Māori and Pacific‑led outcomes, fostering inclusive and innovative ways of working, and helping create a safe, resilient, and future‑ready digital environment.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Digital Operations team is a collaborative and forward‑thinking group responsible for delivering stable, secure, and high‑quality digital and network services that support health services nationwide. Working across national, regional, and local environments, the team partners closely with clinical services, project teams, vendors, and Māori and Pacific health stakeholders to enable reliable service delivery and continuous improvement. Based in a flexible location with opportunities for regional and national collaboration, the team values innovation, equity, and shared ways of working, fostering an inclusive culture where people are supported to learn, contribute ideas, and make a meaningful impact on health outcomes for communities across Aotearoa New Zealand.

About you

To succeed in this role, you are a motivated and capable ICT professional who enjoys working in a hands‑on operational environment and takes pride in delivering reliable, high‑quality services. You bring a strong technical foundation, a proactive approach to problem‑solving, and a genuine desire to learn and grow your capability. You work well both independently and as part of a team, take personal responsibility for outcomes, and build positive relationships across technical, clinical, public, and private‑sector stakeholders. • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Postgraduate certification in relevant areas such as digital infrastructure or networking systems is desirable.
  • Experience with, or knowledge of, Cisco is an advantage; the position is part of the on‑call roster.
  • Service management and ITIL certifications, or a strong understanding of service management practices, are an advantage.
