Job summary

Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children seeks a Manager Customer Information Requests to lead a large, nationally distributed team delivering access to information held under the Privacy Act and Official Information Act. The role focuses on strategic and operational leadership, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement within a high-volume, sensitive environment.

The position requires a strong track record in public service leadership, excellent communication, and the ability to influence

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years’ experience as a senior leader, ideally in the public service.
• Experience leading large teams (100+ indirect reports).
• Ability to interpret and apply legislation, policy, or regulatory requirements.
• Strong analytical capability, using data and reporting for decisions.
• Excellent relationship management across all levels and with external stakeholders.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Understanding tikanga Māori and Pacific peoples’ culture.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership to a large, nationally distributed workforce.
• Oversee service delivery, workforce planning, reporting, and data analysis.
• Lead stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure requests are managed within legislative timeframes while maintaining quality standards.
• Support staff wellbeing and manage relationships with external offices such as the Office of the Ombudsman and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
