Job summary

Hawk Technology in Hastings, Hawke's Bay, seeks a hands-on fabrication support worker to perform deburring, cleaning and finishing of fabricated components for assembly and subsequent production stages.

Role focuses on repetitive, technical support with practical workshop experience, using hand and power tools, and ensuring parts meet required finish and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Experience in metal fabrication or engineering workshop environments.
• Practical knowledge of deburring, grinding, sanding, linishing, drilling, tapping and metal finishing.
• Ability to safely use common workshop hand tools and power tools.
• Ability to read basic drawings and understand part numbers.

Responsibilities

• Deburr cut, drilled, folded, machined and fabricated metal components using the correct hand or power tools.
• Remove sharp edges, burrs, spatter, scale and other imperfections to the required finish without damaging the component.
• Clean, degrease and prepare components for welding, coating, painting, assembly, packing or dispatch.
• Dress and finish fabricated items by grinding, sanding, linishing or polishing where trained and authorised.
• Protect completed parts from contamination, corrosion, scratching or other damage and place them in the next stage location.
• Assist fabricators with material preparation, part identification, job setup and movement of work through the fabrication area.
• Complete straightforward workshop tasks such as measuring, marking, drilling, tapping, cutting or basic fit-up where competent, trained and authorised.
• Read and follow basic fabrication drawings, job sheets and production priorities.
• Inspect own work for cleanliness, safety, and dimensional accuracy; keep benches and tools organized.

Job description

To provide accurate, reliable, and productive support to Hawk Technology's fabrication function by preparing, deburring, cleaning, and finishing fabricated components so they are safe, clean, and ready for assembly or the next production stage. The role requires practical workshop and fabrication knowledge beyond a general labouring position, but is designed around repetitive technical support work rather than qualified fabricator-level responsibilities.

This is not a qualified fabricator position. It would suit someone with previous engineering workshop, metalworking or fabrication experience who is confident using hand and power tools and takes pride in accurate finishing work. The role includes a significant amount of deburring, grinding, cleaning, and preparation of fabricated components.

About you

• Previous experience in metal fabrication, an engineering workshop, sheet metal, machining support, welding support or a similar manufacturing environment.
• Practical knowledge of deburring, grinding, sanding, linishing, drilling, tapping and general metal finishing.
• Ability to safely use common workshop hand tools and power tools.
• Ability to read basic drawings, understand part numbers and take accurate measurements.
• Good awareness of fabrication quality, surface finish and safe handling of metal components.
• Reliable, methodical and comfortable completing repetitive work to a consistent standard.
• Physically capable of safely handling components and undertaking standing workshop work within agreed limits.
• Forklift, overhead crane, abrasive-wheel or other relevant licences and training are advantageous.
