Job summary

IDEA Services in New Zealand seeks compassionate care workers to support adults with intellectual disabilities in our Horowhenua/Kapiti/Mana homes. Full-time, part-time and casual roles available with shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends and occasional overnight duties.

You will help people set goals, manage medications, build independence and engage with the community. Experience in disability or healthcare is valued, but strong people skills and calm, respectful interaction are

About the role | Mō te tūnga

IDEA Services runs a specialist mental health service providing supported accommodation for people with complex care needs and mental health support needs. Located in a welcoming neighbourhood near Raumati Beach, the service consists of six homes where you'll work alongside an experienced and supportive team.

You'll be helping people navigate life's ups and downs, build on their strengths, and develop the skills and confidence to live the life they choose.You'll support people to:

• Set and achieve personal goals
• Manage their medication safely
• Build confidence and independence in daily living skills
• Participate in meaningful activities and connect with their local community
• Explore new opportunities for personal growth and independence
• Take an active role in making decisions about their own lives

Experience in disability, mental health, healthcare, aged care, youth work, wellbeing, or community services is highly valued.

However, we're equally interested in hearing from people who have developed strong people skills through work and life experience. You may have worked in customer service, hospitality, education, retail, security, emergency services, trades, or other people-focused environments where you've built relationships, remained calm under pressure, and confidently managed challenging situations.

We're looking for people who:

Flexibility to work a range of rostered shifts, including weekends

Can build positive, respectful relationships with a diverse range of people

Remain calm and resilient in challenging situations

Are physically able to provide support with mobility and personal care when required

• A calm, patient approach and confidence supporting people with complex or challenging behaviours
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Confidence using computers and tablets as part of your day-to-day work
• A full New Zealand driver's licence
