Job summary

Birkenhead Medical Centre in North Shore Auckland is seeking a friendly Medical Receptionist to join our busy team. You will be the first point of contact for patients, handling front-of-house tasks and daily administration to keep the practice running smoothly.

Experience in medical reception or strong customer service is welcomed. You will work with our clinical team to manage appointments, patient records and payments, while maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.

About the role

We are looking for a friendly, professional Medical Receptionist to join our team at Birkenhead Medical Centre.

This is a full time, busy and varied role. You will be one of the first people our patients speak to, whether in person or over the phone, while also helping with the day to day administration that keeps the practice running smoothly.

Medical reception experience would be helpful but we are also interested in people with strong customer service experience who are confident learning new systems.

What you'll be doing

• Welcoming patients and assisting them in a friendly and professional manner


• Managing appointments using Medtech Evolution


• Answering telephone calls and directing enquiries to the appropriate team member


• Processing patient registrations and keeping information accurate and up to date


• Managing patient accounts, payments and invoicing


• Responding to general enquiries about appointments and practice services


• Working closely with our clinical team to help patient flow and appointment schedules run smoothly


• Managing the reception and waiting areas


• Completing general administration, including scanning, filing and data entry


• Protecting patient confidentiality and following privacy requirements, including the Health Information Privacy Code

What we're looking for

• Previous experience in medical reception or a customer facing role such as reception, hospitality, retail or administration


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills


• A friendly, calm and professional approach when dealing with patients and colleagues


• Strong customer service skills and the ability to handle difficult situations with patience and empathy


• Good organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to manage several tasks at once

Birkenhead Medical Centre is a busy general practice on Auckland’s North Shore. Our team includes six GPs, six nurses, four receptionists and a full-time Practice Manager.
