Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician for a key role in Queenstown, Eastern Cape. The successful candidate will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose and repair mechanical failures, and uphold safety and reliability of production assets.

The role emphasizes hands-on work with hydraulics, pneumatics, and power transmission, reading drawings, and maintaining accurate records. Shift work, including weekends, may be required.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Maintenance Technician or similar
• Strong understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, power transmission and general machinery repair
• Proficiency with mechanical tools and diagnostic equipment
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and schematics
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Commitment to safety protocols and proactive hazard identification
• Willingness to work shifts including weekends/overtime as required
• Desirable: relevant trade qualification (Mechanical Fitter or Millwright)

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventative maintenance on pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, and hydraulic systems
• Diagnose mechanical issues, identify root causes, and perform repairs
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and manuals to guide work
• Inspect machinery to identify potential problems or safety hazards
• Overhaul and replace worn or defective parts, ensuring proper functioning and alignment
• Lubricate machinery per schedule and specifications
• Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment
• Maintain records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used
• Adhere to safety regulations including lockout/tagout
• Collaborate with team to minimise downtime and optimise equipment performance
