Job summary

HELLA New Zealand Ltd. is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead mechanical product design within the Design & Development team in Auckland, NZ. You will guide a team of engineers, work with cross-functional partners, and drive CAD development and processes, including CATIA training.

The role emphasizes hands-on design across the full lifecycle, collaboration, and improving design processes within a dynamic automotive supplier environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in mechanical or product design engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic, or Industrial Engineering (or similar).
• Strong experience with CATIA (essential).
• Proven background in plastic component design, injection moulding, stamping, and tooling.
• Experience working across full product development lifecycle.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work across teams.

Responsibilities

• Leading mechanical design activities across development projects
• Designing and developing components with a focus on quality, cost, and manufacturability
• Creating and reviewing 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation
• Supporting and mentoring team members, including CATIA training and guidance
• Collaboration with internal teams (engineering, quality, production, purchasing) and external partners
• Ensuring designs meet technical, customer, and regulatory requirements
• Contributing to project planning, timelines, and delivery milestones
• Supporting continuous improvement of design processes and systems (PDM, PLM, etc.)

YOUR TASKS

This is a full-time permanent position (40 hours per week).Located in Auckland, New Zealand.
We’re looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineerto join our Design & Development team. This is a great opportunity forsomeone who enjoys leading design work, mentoring others, and being hands-onacross the full product development lifecycle.

About the role

In this role, you’ll take the lead on mechanical productdesign while supporting and guiding a team of engineers. You’ll work closelywith cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products from conceptthrough to production.
You’ll also play a key role in strengthening team capability, particularlyaround CAD (CATIA) and development processes.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

What you’ll bring

• 5+years’ experience in mechanical or product design engineering
• Bachelor’sdegree in Mechanical, Mechatronic, or Industrial Engineering (or similar)
• Strongexperience with CATIA (essential)
• Provenbackground in plastic component design, injection moulding, stamping, andtooling
• Experienceworking across full product development lifecycle
• Strongcommunication skills and ability to work across teams

• Experiencein automotive or similar manufacturing environments
• Knowledgeof DFMEA and industry design standards
• Familiaritywith PDM/PLM systems
