Job summary

Tiaki Wai - Wellington Water is seeking a Mechanical Apprentice for the Silverstream Depot. Through a structured apprenticeship programme and on-the-job training, you’ll develop the skills to become a trade-qualified Industrial Fitter, supporting the Three Waters network across the Wellington region.

As a Mechanical Apprentice, you’ll work with experienced tradespeople maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment at pump stations and utility assets, progressively building expertise and taking

Qualifications

• Interest in mechanical trades and industrial maintenance.
• Willingness to learn and take on increasing responsibility.
• Commitment to health and safety.
• Reliable with strong work ethic and teamwork.
• Full Class 1 Driver Licence, manual preferred.
• Confined space and safety certs desirable.

Responsibilities

• Complete a structured apprenticeship while gaining practical experience.
• Assist with maintenance, inspection and repair of mechanical assets across water networks.
• Learn to diagnose faults and perform repairs on utility equipment.
• Use mobile technology and systems to record work activities.
• Participate in standby roster and emergency response.
• Progress toward trade qualification milestones.
