Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day operational management of the Marina.
  • Regular reporting to the Board of Directors to maintain an open communication policy.
  • Financial management and administration including budgeting and financial statements.
  • Plan and develop the strategic long-term plan with the Board.
  • Build and lead the team; maintain staff documentation.
  • Maintain marina structures and facilities; develop long-term replacement plan.
  • Develop annual timetable of milestones; review SOP; communicate with marina users.
  • Ensure compliance with legal reporting, resource consent, berth licences and records.

40 hours week

About the role

The Marina Manager is appointed by the Board of Directors and has overall responsibility to provide and manage all aspects of the business operation of Mana Marina. The Board requires the Manager to work without supervision and report clearly and regularly against agreed milestones.

The Manager leads a small dedicated team working in a dynamic marina workplace. A willingness to contribute to the team effort and assist with work when needed is essential - A flexible, ‘can do’ attitude.

The Manager must have strong planning and financial administration skills and have the communication skills to build strong working relationships with key stakeholders, marina users, and the marina team.

From time to time the Manager is required to assist with practical tasks around the Marina that require a good level of fitness.

Ideally, the successful candidate will have several years’ experience in business management, with a tertiary business qualification, or a recognised marina management qualification.

The person sought is keen, organized, has a strong work ethic, has the skills required, and is willing to make a long-term commitment to the successful operation of Mana Marina.

Specific skills required

Experience in a business management or administration role.

Strong understanding of financial reporting and accounting principles.

Demonstrate an ability to plan and implement business strategies.

Excellent organizational, analytical, and written communication skills.

Knowledge and passion for boating and the marine industry would be desirable.

Be self-reliant and able to work without supervision.

Responsive to quickly changing situations.

Good understanding of legal and statutory requirements and obligations.

Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with customers, stakeholders and the community.

Key responsibilities

Day-to-day operational management of the Marina.

Regular reporting to the Board of Directors to maintain an open communication ‘no surprises’ policy.

Financial Management and Administration including: Maintenance and improvement of financial recording systems, review and analysis of financial performance, development of an annual budget, timely preparation of financial statements.

Planning - Work with the Board to develop the strategic long-term plan. Develop an annual business plan/budget for Board consideration by June each year.

Staff - Build and lead the team to cultivate a positive work environment and culture. Maintain staff employment documentation.

Marina Maintenance -Ensure Marina structures and facilities are maintained and a long-term replacement plan is in place.

General - Make an annual timetable detailing critical milestones. Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Maintain regular communications with Marina users.

Legal Regulatory - Comply with legal reporting requirements. Manage Resource Consent obligations. Manage berth licence transfers. Ensure records are current and licence-holder register is maintained. Respond to issues requiring legal advice.

Qualifications

Tertiary business qualification or a recognised marina management qualification.

MS Word, Outlook, MS Excel, MYOB.

KPIs, Training

Key performance indicators (KPI) are defined in the Job description.

Training in marina software (Pacsoft NG) will be provided.

First aid training will be provided.

Opportunities to gain marina management qualifications within the industry are available.
