Job summary

Marine Installations and Developments in Whangaparaoa, North Island, seeks a skilled automotive/diesel marine technician with several years of experience to join our team. This role covers custom new builds and fleet servicing for large pleasure craft, with 40-hour weeks, mainly on-site and occasional site work as required.

You will diagnose complex faults, perform routine engine maintenance, and carry out installation work, collaborating with the service team to ensure high-quality workmanship.

Qualifications

  • Marine engineering experience with diagnostics and repairs.
  • Experience servicing, troubleshooting and repairing thruster, hydraulic, and propulsion systems.
  • Ability to work in workshop and on-site with clients.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out engineering duties as requested by the service team coordinator.
  • Use testing tools for fault finding and rectification.
  • Routine engine servicing and maintenance on modern marine engines.
  • Fault diagnosis, troubleshooting and repairs on marine systems throughout the vessel.
  • Hands-on work in workshop and on-site as required.
  • Check work for quality standards and report issues.
  • Perform installation work.

Marine Installation and Developments – Whangaparaoa, North Island

This is a rare opportunity in custom new builds and fleet servicing for large pleasure craft.

With more that 25 years industry experience, Marine Installations and Developments (MID) has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality marine servicing, installations, and engineering solutions on medium to large vessels.

MID operates across two specialist divisions: Custom New Builds and Vessel Service & Maintenance for our clients' fleet. The successful candidate will be a versatile team member who is confident working across both areas of the business.

Main Role
  • Carry out engineering duties as requested by the service team coordinator
  • Use appropriate tools for testing and fault finding and rectification work
  • Routine engine servicing and maintenance on a variety of modern marine engines
  • Fault diagnosis, troubleshooting and repairs on all marine system throughout the vessel
  • Hands on work in the workshop and remotely at the boat location as required
  • Check your work to ensure quality standards are met and report problems and fix as required
  • Installation work
Qualifications and Experience
  • Automotive / Diesel mechanic trade qualification, with several years' experience in a marine engineering role.
  • Experience in servicing, troubleshooting and repairing:
  • Thruster and Bow Thruster Systems
  • Hydraulic Systems
  • Drivelines and Propulsion Systems
  • Confident with parts identification
  • Sheetmetal work would be advantageous
  • Ability to work alongside other members of the team and other trades
Personal Attributes and Qualities
  • Must be able to converse with team and clients in a confident and personable manner
  • Take full ownership of your task in hand and see it through to the end
  • Work in acceptable time frames
  • Methodical and disciplined approach to work
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and handwritten reporting
  • Clean and tidy appearance

Working Hours - 40 hours per week between 8am and 5pm weekdays. Overtime may be required from time to time.
