Job summary

Auckland Council is seeking a Lead for Property Advisory to deliver commercially robust, strategically aligned property advice across the Council Group. The role leads a statutory advisory function and is the primary contact for departments and elected members on property matters.

You will ensure advice is evidence-based, financially sound, and well governed, articulating impacts, risks and long-term value. Flexible working, wellbeing support and KiwiSaver are included.

The Manager Property Advisory is a subject matter expert, providing commercially robust, strategically aligned property and land advice that enables confident decision-making across the Council Group. The role leads a specialist technical statutory advisory function and acts as the primary point of contact for Council departments and elected members on property and land matters, ensuring advice is evidence-based, commercially sound, and well governed.

This role seeks to ensure property and land decisions are commercially sound, strategically aligned, and well governed, with a focus on advice clearly articulating financial impacts, risks, and long-term value. You will ensure all property advice, agreements, and recommendations comply with relevant legislation, including the Local Government Act, Public Works Act and Reserves Act and provide clear, defensible advice that supports efficient, timely, and well-governed commercial decision-making.

• Act as a subject matter expert, providing quality, strategic commercial property and technical statutory land advice across Council portfolios and local members.

Some key capabilities & experience needed to be successful in this role are:

• Extensive experience in a relevant field (legal, planning, property etc), within a local government setting
• In-depth working knowledge of Resource Management Act, Public Works Act & Reserves Act, Local Government Act
• Strong understanding of public-sector governance and statutory frameworks
• Proven experience providing senior advisory input in a politically sensitive environment
• Proven people leadership and capability development skills

Salary: This role is salary band J with a range of $144-$175k per annum, depending on skills & experience
