Job summary

Auckland Council is seeking a Senior Advisor to lead value-for-money reviews and drive performance improvements. You will work with senior leaders, elected members and cross-functional teams to turn complex data into actionable recommendations and strategic decisions.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years' experience in analytical/ advisory roles.
• Experience in financial, commercial, procurement, property or business performance environments.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication with clear storytelling.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Auckland Council's Value for Money Unit and play a key role in helping the Council Group deliver better outcomes for Auckland through improved performance, service quality and value for money.

As a Senior Advisor - Value for Money, you will work across a diverse range of council services, undertaking reviews that challenge existing approaches and identify opportunities to improve effectiveness, efficiency and value. Working closely with senior leaders, elected members and stakeholders across the organisation, you'll combine analytical thinking, commercial acumen and strong engagement skills to transform complex information into meaningful insights that support high-quality decision-making.

This role sits within the Group Strategy, Transformation and Partnerships department and provides a unique opportunity to influence strategic improvement initiatives that have a lasting impact across the Auckland Council Group.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading and supporting value for money reviews across Council and Council-Controlled Organisations
• Identifying opportunities to improve performance, service quality and cost-effectiveness through robust analysis and evidence-based recommendations
• Combining and critically analysing data and information from multiple sources to generate meaningful insights
• Preparing clear, compelling reports, presentations and advice for senior leaders and elected members
• Managing project deliverables to agreed scope, budget and timelines
• Facilitating workshops and discussions that support problem-solving and decision-making
• Building strong relationships across the Council Group and leveraging specialist expertise from finance, procurement, legal and risk teams
• Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and organisational excellence

You are an experienced advisor, analyst or consultant who enjoys working in complex environments and solving challenging business problems. You have a strong analytical mindset and can confidently work with ambiguity, turning information, data and stakeholder perspectives into actionable recommendations.

You are equally comfortable engaging with senior executives and elected members as you are diving deep into data and performance information. Through your strong communication and influencing skills, you can build trust, challenge thinking constructively and help stakeholders achieve better outcomes.

We'll also be looking for:

• A minimum of 7 years' experience in analytical, advisory, consulting, performance improvement or related roles
• Demonstrated ability to undertake critical analysis and provide insights and recommendations that improve organisational performance
• Experience in financial, commercial, procurement, property or business performance environments
• Strong project delivery skills and experience applying project methodologies
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information in easy-to-understand formats
• Proven stakeholder engagement, influencing and relationship management capability across all organisational levels
• Experience facilitating workshops and driving consensus among diverse stakeholder groups
• Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• A relevant tertiary qualification
