Job summary

WorkSafe New Zealand, the primary workplace health and safety regulator, is seeking a Manager, Business Planning Services in Wellington. You will lead and mature the organisation's planning capability, connecting strategic priorities with delivery across teams and ensuring ownership of the plans.

Enterprise Planning and Implementation is a new group established at WorkSafe to strengthen planning, coordination, and implementation across the organisation, particularly to improve how work is prioritised, sequenced, and supported through to delivery.

Business Planning Services sits within the Enterprise Planning and Implementation group. The team helps WorkSafe create a shared view of organisational priorities, capacity and planned activity.

You will lead two direct reports and work across the organisation to coordinate planning cycles and improve visibility of how plans connect. The team supports leaders to identify alignment, interdependencies and pressure points while business units retain ownership of their plans and delivery.

About the role / Ō te tūranga

As Manager, Business Planning Services, you will lead and continue to mature WorkSafe's organisation-wide business planning capability.

Working with leaders and teams across the organisation, you will help connect strategic priorities, business plans, operational activity and change initiatives into a shared and realistic view of what can be delivered.

You will build strong relationships, strengthen planning capability and encourage a more connected approach to planning across WorkSafe, helping leaders identify interdependencies, make informed decisions and maintain focus on organisational priorities while retaining ownership of their plans and delivery.

What You'll Do / Ko tōu ake mahi

  • Lead and continuously improve WorkSafe's business planning discipline
  • Coordinate transparent and well-timed organisation-wide planning cycles
  • Establish practical planning frameworks, standards and tools
  • Build strong relationships across WorkSafe and support leaders to strengthen planning capability and ownership
  • Help leaders develop clear, coherent and achievable plans aligned to organisational priorities
  • Identify interdependencies, risks and pressure points across plans
  • Provide insight on organisational capacity, priorities and sequencing
  • Encourage a more connected, organisation-wide approach to planning that supports collaboration and informed decision-making
  • Significant experience leading business or organisational planning
  • Experience designing and operating organisation-wide planning processes
  • Strong understanding of prioritisation, capacity and sequencing
  • Experience advising senior leaders on planning and delivery risk
  • Proven ability to influence, align and build commitment across a broad range of stakeholders
  • Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to work effectively with people at different levels of planning maturity
  • A collaborative and pragmatic approach, with a track record of building capability and encouraging ownership
  • Strong people leadership, coaching and capability-building skills

Familiarity with portfolio or programme governance, public sector planning and data or reporting tools used to show progress, capacity and interdependencies would be advantageous.

Salary range / Awhe utu

The expected appointment base salary range for this role is $152,761 - $168,932. KiwiSaver or SSRSS employer contributions are additional. From 1 April 2026, our KiwiSaver employer contribution increased to 3.5%.
