Job summary

Mercury is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician - Electrical to support our hydro generation assets at Maraetai and Waipāpa on the Waikato River in the Taupo region. You will diagnose faults, develop safe long-term solutions, and contribute to planned and reactive maintenance that keeps renewable generation reliable.

Qualifications

  • Qualified electrical tradesperson with relevant plant operations, process control or maintenance experience.
  • Experience with high voltage plant is an advantage.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to unplanned maintenance work and troubleshoot faults.
  • Carry out planned maintenance and support asset management strategies.
  • Manage contractors: scope, requirements, progress and delivery reporting.
  • Support timely completion of planned maintenance activities.
  • Supervise maintenance to ensure quality, safety and compliance.

Bring your electrical maintenance expertise to Mercury’s hydro generation team, helping keep our plant safe, reliable and performing at its best.

As a Maintenance Technician - Electrical, you’ll work across Maraetai and Waipāpa hydro power stations on the Waikato River. You’ll diagnose plant faults, develop safe and long-term solutions, and contribute to the planned and reactive maintenance that supports reliable renewable generation.

You’ll work across a wide variety of electrical plant and gain broad exposure to the different functions involved in operating and maintaining a hydro power station. You’ll be part of a collaborative team that supports each other and puts safety at the centre of the work.

Tāu e mahi ai | What you’ll be doing

  • Respond to unplanned maintenance work, troubleshooting plant faults and developing safe, long-term solutions
  • Carry out planned maintenance and support the implementation of asset management strategies
  • Manage contractors, including scoping work, evaluating requirements, monitoring progress and reporting on delivery
  • Support the quality and timely completion of planned maintenance activities
  • Supervise maintenance activities to ensure quality, health and safety, and compliance requirements are met

You’ll be a qualified electrical tradesperson with relevant experience in plant operations, process control, maintenance, manufacturing or a heavy process environment.

You’ll also bring:

  • Experience in a similar role, such as Industrial Electrician, Maintenance Electrician, Electrical Technician or similar role
  • Strong electrical fault-finding and problem-solving capability
  • An ability to consider both immediate plant issues and longer-term asset outcomes
  • The ability to respond effectively to changing maintenance priorities and plant requirements
  • A collaborative approach to working with colleagues, contractors and other stakeholders

Experience working with high-voltage plant would be an advantage, as would experience with instrumentation or protection systems.
