Job summary

OceanaGold is offering a Macraes Summer Internship for an aspiring geologist to gain practical field experience at the Macraes Mine in Otago, New Zealand. The paid internship runs mid-November to mid-February on a 9-day fortnight roster (5 on, 2 off, 4 on, 3 off) and involves hands‑on projects under the Exploration Geology team.

You will log diamond drill core, support exploration programs, and present learnings to Site Management.

Qualifications

• In your 2nd last or final year of role‑related study.
• Full Class 1 Drivers licence (manual preferred).
• Unrestricted New Zealand working rights.
• Available from mid-November 2026 through to mid-February 2027.
• Ideally have somewhere to stay in Dunedin, Oamaru or surrounds, and happy to bus to site daily.

Responsibilities

• Gaining practical experience by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members.
• Participating in group activities and projects with other Interns, providing a well-rounded knowledge of the mining process.
• Presenting experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship.

Are you a talented and ambitious university student studying Geology looking to gain practical experience in your field of study? We have 2 internship opportunities for you to join OceanaGold, working at our Macraes Mine in Otago.

These paid internship opportunities will run from mid-November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicants) working with our talented Exploration Geology team on-site at Macraes. 9-day fortnight roster: 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off, 7am – 4:30pm daily.

What will you be doing?

• Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members
• Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns, providing you with a well-rounded knowledge of the mining process.
• Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your growth and achievements.

Specific project work will involve:

Learn how to geologically log diamond drill core and assist with the development of an exploration program to test downdip extension of mineralisation within the Hyde Macraes Shear Zone.
