Job summary

OceanaGold Corporation invites applications for a paid internship at the Macraes Mine in Otago, where ambitious university students studying Environmental or Agricultural Science can gain practical field experience. The 3-month internship runs from mid‑November to mid‑February, with a 9-day fortnight roster (5 on, 2 off, 4 on, 3 off) and 7:00am–4:30pm on-site.

• Full Class 1 Drivers licence (manual preferred) and ability to drive manual vehicles.
• Unrestricted New Zealand working rights.
• Available mid-November 2026 through to mid-February 2027.
• In your 2nd last or final year of role-related study.
• Ideally have somewhere to stay in Dunedin, Oamaru or surrounds and able to bus to site daily.
• Curious and inquisitive mindset with a passion for problem solving.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Familiarity with data analysis tools and visualisation platforms is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Gain practical experience by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members.
• Participate in group activities and projects with other interns to gain a well-rounded knowledge of the mining process.
• Present your experiences and key learnings to Site Management at the internship conclusion.

Job Description

Are you a talented and ambitious university student studying Environmental / Agricultural Science looking to gain practical experience in your field of study? We have an internship opportunity for you to join OceanaGold, working at our Macraes Mine in Otago.

This paid internship will run from mid-November through to mid-February (dependent on exam timetable of the successful applicants) working with our talented Environmental team on-site at Macraes. 9-day fortnight roster: 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off, 7am – 4:30pm daily.

What will you be doing?

• Gaining practical experience in your chosen field of study by working on diverse projects assigned by department managers and team members
• Participating in various group activities and projects with other Interns, providing you with a well-rounded knowledge of the mining process.
• Presenting your experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your growth and achievements.

Specific project work will involve:

Investigate, define, review and collect samples (% exposed soil surface, clover/grass composition balance, soil analysis, soil depth and the like) from existing rehabilitation areas to determine a viable set of parameters to assess when a rehabilitated area has reached “completion” stage.
