Job summary

Sleepyhead, a New Zealand mattress manufacturer, is seeking a reliable Tape Edger to join our manufacturing team. You’ll help finish mattress borders and panels to our quality standards, with training provided to develop your skills in a supportive, family‑oriented environment.

Key qualities include reliability, willingness to learn, and the ability to work safely at a steady production pace. Sewing or manufacturing experience is a plus, and overtime opportunities including Saturdays are

• No extensive experience required; sewing or manufacturing experience is a plus.
• Reliable, punctual and hardworking.
• Ability to follow instructions and work to specifications.
• Physically capable of repetitive tasks.

Responsibilities

• Operate tape edging and sewing machinery safely and efficiently.
• Edge and finish mattress panels and borders to specifications.
• Attach tape accurately to achieve a high-quality finish.
• Prepare materials for sewing.
• Inspect finished work for quality and production standards.
• Identify and report defects, faults or quality issues.
• Follow production instructions, work orders and SOPs.
• Complete job rotation and work across other production tasks within your training and competency.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe work area.
• Complete housekeeping and participate in 5S and continuous improvement activities.
• Work collaboratively with team members to meet production requirements.
• Follow all health, safety and PPE requirements.

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable and motivated Tape Edger to join our manufacturing team.

As a Tape Edger, you’ll play an important role in the production process, ensuring mattress borders and panels are finished accurately to our quality standards. You’ll work as part of a supportive production team and receive training to develop your skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate tape edging and sewing machinery safely and efficiently
• Edge and finish mattress panels and borders to required specifications
• Attach tape accurately and consistently to achieve a high-quality finish
• Prepare materials and components for sewing
• Inspect finished work to ensure it meets quality and production standards
• Identify and report defects, faults or quality issues
• Follow production instructions, work orders and standard operating procedures
• Complete job rotation and work across other production tasks within your training and competency
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe work area

About You

You don’t need extensive experience, although sewing, upholstery, manufacturing or tape edging experience would be an advantage.
