Job summary

Sip N Dip, operated by Gandhi & Desai Limited, seeks two reliable Retail Assistants to join the Otago region team. You will welcome customers, take orders, and process payments while assisting with food preparation and display upkeep in a busy retail setting.

The role requires NZQA Level 2/3 qualification or equivalent experience, with weekend and holiday availability. Strong numeracy, teamwork and reliability are essential for this hands-on position in store operations.

Qualifications

• NZQF Level 2 or 3 qualification relevant to the role OR at least one year of relevant work experience.
• Either relevant work experience or a relevant qualification is required.

Responsibilities

• Welcome customers and provide prompt service; assist with enquiries and complaints about products and services.
• Take orders and process sales, refunds and payments using POS/EFTPOS systems.
• Assist with the preparation and serving of acai bowls, desserts and beverages as part of daily retail operations.
• Replenish stock, maintain product displays, and ensure goods are correctly priced and labelled.
• Receive deliveries, check stock quantities and condition, and store products appropriately.
• Assist with stocktaking, inventory checks, stock ordering and supplier communication.
• Monitor expiry dates, rotate stock using FIFO and remove damaged or expired products.
• Maintain clean and organised sales, storage and food preparation areas.
• Follow food safety, hygiene, workplace health and safety, security and loss-prevention procedures.
• Assist with store opening, closing and daily operations.
• Report customer complaints, stock discrepancies, hazards and security concerns to management.

Other Requirements

Previous retail, dairy, supermarket, convenience store or grocery experience is preferred. Basic numeracy and ability to accurately handle cash, prices and change. Work cooperatively with team members to ensure prompt customer service. Reliable, punctual, honest and able to work effectively in a team. Good attention to detail when checking stock, deliveries, prices and expiry dates. Ability to stand for extended periods and safely handle stock as required. Willingness to work weekends, early mornings, evenings and public holidays as rostered. Willingness to follow food safety, health and safety, security and store procedures. Must have valid New Zealand work rights. Clear character check and drug and alcohol testing. Reliable transport or suitable travel arrangements for rostered shifts. Clean and full driver's licence.
