Job summary

Alliance Group in Ashburton is seeking a Livestock Representative to be the key link between the company and farmer shareholders. You will procure livestock, grow market share, and support farmers to achieve strong business outcomes while meeting supply and performance targets.

The role offers autonomy in a fast-paced, field-based environment, with a focus on relationship management, commercial performance, and efficient logistics within Alliance’s high-quality supply chain.

Qualifications

  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Independent, results-driven with territory management.
  • Tertiary Agribusiness qualification is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Procure livestock aligned to Alliance strategy, delivering on volume and quality.
  • Develop trusted partnerships with shareholder suppliers.
  • Plan and forecast pipelines and align supply with processing requirements.
  • Coordinate livestock logistics, transport, and scheduling.
  • Promote Farm Assurance Programme and safety standards.

The Role

As a Livestock Representative, you’ll be the key link between Alliance and our farmer shareholders across the Ashburton Region. This is a highly relationship-focused, commercially driven role where no two days are the same.

You’ll be responsible for procuring livestock, growing market share, and supporting farmers to achieve the best outcomes for their business, while delivering on Alliance’s supply and performance targets.

This role offers real autonomy, variety, and the opportunity to make a tangible impact in a fast-paced, field-based environment.

What you’ll be doing:

In this role, you’ll take ownership of your territory, balancing relationship management, livestock procurement, and commercial performance. You will:

  • Procure and deliver results – Secure livestock aligned to Alliance strategy, delivering on volume, quality, and financial targets while monitoring market trends and competitor activity
  • Build and grow farmer relationships – Develop trusted partnerships with shareholder suppliers, identify new opportunities, and convert prospects into long-term clients
  • Plan and execute effectively – Manage your pipeline, maintain accurate livestock forecasts, and align supply with operational and processing requirements
  • Coordinate and communicate – Ensure smooth livestock logistics, transport, and scheduling, while keeping farmers and internal teams well-informed
  • Champion standards and programmes – Promote the Farm Assurance Programme (FAP) and uphold health, safety, and compliance expectations
About You

You’ll bring a mix of commercial thinking, rural knowledge, and strong relationship-building skills, along with:

  • Solid understanding of the livestock and agricultural sector
  • Proven ability to build trust and influence farmers and stakeholders
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • A results-driven mindset with the ability to work independently
  • Confidence in planning, forecasting, and managing your own territory
  • High levels of organisation and time management
  • A tertiary qualification in Agribusiness or a related field is advantageous but not essential.
