Job summary

AgResearch's Animal Genomics Team seeks a Research Associate to plan and undertake livestock data and sample collection, manage and quality-check research data, and support genetic improvement across sheep, cattle and deer industries.

The role involves travel to farms and processing plants across New Zealand, working independently and as part of a team to deliver high‑quality data for cutting-edge bioeconomy research.

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in animal science, genetics or a relevant science discipline (and/or relevant research experience).
• Advanced sheep and cattle handling skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with farmers, breeders and scientists.
• Willingness to travel across New Zealand with a valid driver’s licence.
• Commitment to data quality, animal welfare and health and safety.

Responsibilities

• Plan, co-ordinate and undertake livestock data and sample collection.
• Manage and quality-check research data.
• Contribute to solving practical challenges in field-based research.
• Travel across New Zealand for data collection and data processing activities.
