Job summary

EIT Eastern Institute Of Technology is seeking a Linux Engineer to join the Digital team in Hawke's Bay. This permanent, full-time role focuses on maintaining and securing a Linux-based infrastructure that supports teaching and operations, with a salary between NZD 95,000 and 105,000 per year.

You will own Linux servers, automate with Ansible, and collaborate with infrastructure, networking, cloud, and security teams to deliver reliable solutions.

Qualifications

• 3 to 5 years' Linux systems administration or infrastructure engineering.
• Experience managing enterprise Linux environments, esp. Red Hat.
• Experience with patch management, security hardening, and lifecycle mgmt.
• Experience with infrastructure automation using Ansible.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of Linux server infrastructure and enterprise applications.
• Maintain, secure, and optimise Linux operating systems and services.
• Develop and improve automation using Ansible and other tools.
• Monitor performance, capacity, and availability; resolve issues.
• Manage patching, upgrades, and lifecycle maintenance.
• Support cybersecurity initiatives through vulnerability management.
• Administer Linux-hosted platforms and databases.
• Collaborate with teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Maintain documentation, procedures, and system standards.
• Provide 2nd/3rd level support and on-call coverage.
