Job summary

NPE-Tech is an established electrical contracting company serving Hamilton, Palmerston North, New Plymouth and Tauranga. We are expanding and seek experienced Distribution Line Mechanics comfortable with heights and customer‑facing work.

Vacancies are in Taranaki; includes training apprentices and a team‑oriented environment with strong safety focus. Applicants must have NZ work rights and a valid electrical qualification.

Qualifications

• Hold a valid full driver’s license (heavy vehicle preferrable).
• Hold a valid electrical qualification and be competent with electrical codes.
• Demonstrate aptitude for network distribution electrical work.
• Knowledge of electrical codes and safety practices.
• Able to read plans, schematics and construction standards.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience on a distribution network.

Responsibilities

• Carry out electrical repairs, maintenance, upgrades or alteration work at customer premises.
• Diagnose electrical faults on customer premises and Powerco work sites and complete repairs.
• Maintain and replace assets on overhead and underground distribution network assets per local standards.
• Install underground reticulation, cables, transformers and switchgear.
• Replace poles and crossarms on the local network.
• Perform electrical testing and document results per regulations.

We are currently looking for 2 Distribution Line mechanic candidates that want to grow with us and are forward thinking. About The Role

This role will suit an experienced Line Mechanic who’s methodical and customer orientated and not afraid of heights. We currently have vacancies in Taranaki

Key Tasks

• Carry out electrical repairs, maintenance, upgrades or alteration work at customer’s premises.
• Diagnose electrical faults on customer’s premises and Powerco work sites and complete repairs as directed.
• Carry out maintenance and asset replacement on overhead and underground distribution network assets as per the local network standards
• Install underground reticulation, cables, transformers, and switchgear
• Replace poles and crossarms on the local network
• Carry out appropriate electrical testing procedures and document electrical tests as required by the various Electrical Regulations and Codes of Practice.
• Deliver jobs as per the allocated man hours and materials planned
• Assist with training apprentice/trainee line mechanics
• Develop positive working relationships with other apprentices and team members
• Proactively communicate any issues that may hinder the successful completion of a task or health and safety of yourself or others

• Follow safe working instructions and procedures.
• Use protective clothing and equipment as and where required.
• Report incidents, accidents, near misses and hazards in a timely manner as per company and client requirements
• Understand and implement Critical Risk controls and safe Work Method Statements as per company HSE procedures

What We Are Looking For

• Hold a valid full drivers license. Heavy truck is preferable
• Hold a valid Electrical qualification
• Aptitude for network distribution electrical work
• Demonstrate knowledge of electrical codes and safety practices
• Possess the ability to understand plans, schematics and construction standards
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience on a distribution network
