Job summary

Newlands College in Wellington seeks an experienced and passionate ORS Teacher to lead the educational program for learners with high and complex needs. You will coordinate IEPs, collaborate with whānau, mainstream teachers, and external specialists to tailor inclusive learning experiences.

The role also includes team leadership of Teacher Aides, designing modified curricula, promoting classroom inclusion, and supporting transitions into and out of Newlands College, with a focus on Level 1

Qualifications

• Eligibility to teach in NZ with certificated status.
• Experience in inclusive education and IEP development.
• Ability to lead a support team and collaborate with teachers.

Responsibilities

• Convene, develop, and monitor IEPs with students, whānau, teachers and external specialists.
• Design and deliver modified learning programmes aligned to NZ Curriculum Level 1.
• Provide leadership and supervision of Teacher Aides within the Learning Support Centre.
• Promote successful inclusion of ORS students in core classes and school activities.
• Support transition planning for learners entering and exiting the college.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate teacher to join our collaborative Learning Support Centre team, providing inclusive education for our ORS-funded students with high and complex needs. The key function of the ORS Teacher is to lead and coordinate the educational program for our learners.

• Individual Education Plans (IEPs): You are responsible for convening, developing, implementing, and monitoring the IEPs. This involves setting goals collaboratively with the student, their whānau, mainstream teachers, and a wide range of external specialists (like Speech-Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Ministry of Education Learning Support Advisors).
• Curriculum: Designing and delivering modified, inclusive learning programmes tailored to the student's unique needs, focusing on skills appropriate for students working at or below Level 1 of the New Zealand Curriculum.
• Team Leadership: Providing crucial leadership and supervision of the Teacher Aides (TAs) within the Learning Support Centre and in mainstream classrooms to ensure effective implementation of the IEPs.
• Inclusion and Collaboration: Working closely with various classroom teachers to promote the successful inclusion of ORS students in core classes and school-wide activities.
• Transition Planning: Actively supporting and coordinating the students' transition into and out of Newlands College.
