We are looking for a creative and experienced Learning Design & Content Specialist who is passionate about developing engaging learning experiences and creating high-quality learning content.

This role will play an important part in shaping how we design, develop and deliver learning across Auckland Airport. You will transform operational knowledge and technical information into engaging eLearning, instructor-led training, assessments and practical learning resources that support our diverse operational workforce.

Working closely with operational subject matter experts, stakeholders and the wider Operations Training & Standards Team, you will take learning content from initial concept through to development, delivery, evaluation and continuous improvement.

You will also help build the instructional design capability of the wider team through collaboration, coaching and knowledge sharing.

Some of the exciting work you will get to do:
  • Bring learning to life through interactive eLearning, video, animation and digital learning experiences.
  • Develop learning resources that support our Customer Service teams, Airfield Operations and Airport Emergency Services.
  • Work alongside operational specialists to turn complex processes and technical knowledge into engaging learning experiences.
  • Explore new learning technologies, including interactive and 3D learning tools.
  • Help shape the future of learning content and instructional design across Auckland Airport.
Your key responsibilities

Learning Design & Development:

  • Design, develop and maintain engaging eLearning, instructor-led and blended learning solutions.
  • Translate operational requirements and subject matter expertise into effective learning content.
  • Develop learning resources including facilitator guides, learner materials, presentations, assessments, knowledge checks, job aids and supporting documentation.
  • Create and edit multimedia content, including instructional videos, animations and interactive learning activities.
  • Apply instructional design methodologies and adult learning principles to create practical, engaging and effective learning experiences.

Learning Content Management & Improvement:

  • Develop, maintain and organise training documentation, course specifications and learning resources.
  • Review existing learning content to ensure it remains accurate, relevant, consistent and fit for purpose.
  • Coordinate and support programme and content review cycles, identifying gaps, outdated material and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain consistent learning templates, design standards and instructional resources.
  • Capture learner feedback and stakeholder input to evaluate learning effectiveness and inform continuous improvement.
  • Support the administration and maintenance of OTST learning content within the Learning Management System (LMS).

Stakeholder Engagement & Capability Development:

  • Build effective relationships with operational teams, subject matter experts and stakeholders to understand learning needs and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Collaborate with fellow Learning & Development Partners to ensure consistency and quality across learning design and development.
  • Share instructional design knowledge, tools and techniques, coaching colleagues to build their eLearning and content development capability.
  • Support the development of on-the-job trainers through Train the Trainer initiatives and supporting learning resources.
  • Facilitate instructor-led training, workshops and presentations where required.
  • Identify opportunities to improve learning processes, resources and approaches across the organisation.
  • Perform any other accountabilities as reasonably assigned within the functions of the Operations Training & Standards Team.
What you will bring to the role

At Auckland Airport, we are a busy hive of activity and a lot of what we look for is how you align with our AKL values: All In | Tātou tatou – How we feel, Know How | Kōkiri Tahi – How we think and Let’s Go | Karawhiua – How we act.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Proven experience in instructional design, learning content development or digital learning creation.
  • Demonstrated experience developing engaging eLearning modules, with a portfolio or examples of learning content you have personally created.
  • Strong working knowledge and practical experience with Articulate Storyline. Experience with Articulate Rise is desirable.
  • Experience in video creation and editing, ideally using Camtasia or similar software.
  • Understanding of instructional design methodologies, adult learning principles and assessment design.
  • Experience developing a range of learning resources, including facilitator guides, learner materials, presentations, assessments and job aids.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with multimedia learning, animation, voiceovers or interactive learning technologies would be advantageous.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear and engaging learning content.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and confidence engaging with operational specialists and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Confident facilitating training, workshops and presentations to individuals and larger groups.
  • Creative, curious and enthusiastic about exploring new learning technologies and approaches.

  • A collaborative team player who enjoys sharing knowledge, coaching others and contributing to the development of those around them.
