Job summary

AB Equipment in North Harbour seeks a Leading Hand Heavy Diesel Mechanic to lead a small team and work autonomously in field or workshop settings. You’ll diagnose faults, plan jobs and ensure safe completion with excellent customer service.

Trade qualification in Diesel/Heavy Plant, strong hydraulic/mechanical/electrical skills, and a full driver’s licence are required; endorsements are a plus, and a willingness to join the call-out roster is preferred.

Are you a skilled Diesel Mechanic with a passion for machinery, problem solving and leading a small Team? Looking for a rewarding career where you'll be valued and supported? look no further!

We are looking for an experienced Leading Hand Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our team. You will be working autonomously in the field or in our well-equipped workshop. Organisational skills are a must in this role, and you will understand the value of providing exceptional customer service.

What you will need to succeed:

• Trade qualified in Diesel, Heavy Plant or equivalent, with relevant experience.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills across hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems.
• Previous Leading Hand experience, including allocating work and supporting technicians to complete jobs safely and effectively.
• Strong customer service, communication and job-planning skills, with a positive, team-focused attitude.
• Full driver's licence; F, W, T and R endorsements preferred. Basic computer skills, willingness to learn new equipment and participate in the call-out roster.
