Job summary

AB Equipment in North Harbour, New Zealand, is seeking an experienced Leading Hand Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our team. You will work autonomously in the field or in our workshop, lead a small team of technicians, and ensure safe, efficient completion of jobs.

The role emphasizes fault finding across hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems, strong customer service, and proactive job planning. A trade qualification in Diesel or Heavy Plant and a full NZ driver's licence are required.

We are looking for an experienced Leading Hand Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our team. You will be working autonomously in the field or in our well-equipped workshop. Organisational skills are a must in this role, and you will understand the value of providing exceptional customer service.

What you will need to succeed:

• Trade qualified in Diesel, Heavy Plant or equivalent, with relevant experience.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills across hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems.
• Previous Leading Hand experience, including allocating work and supporting technicians to complete jobs safely and effectively.
• Strong customer service, communication and job-planning skills, with a positive, team-focused attitude.
• Full driver's licence; F, W, T and R endorsements preferred. Basic computer skills, willingness to learn new equipment and participate in the call-out roster.
